  • Course Description

This course is part of the Public Health Practice (PH 410) course series. These courses can be taken separately and in any sequence desired. The overall PH 410 series targets mid- and senior-level public health professionals coming from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Together, these courses provide a comprehensive introduction to public health concepts and practice by examining the philosophy, purpose, history, organization, functions, tools, activities and results of public health practice at the national, state, and community levels. The PH 410 series also addresses important health issues and problems facing the public health system. Case studies and a variety of practice-related exercises serve as a basis for learner participation in real world public health problem-solving simulations. The various components of these courses serve to stimulate interactions among learners and instructors around important problems and issues facing public health. Since computers and the Internet's World Wide Web are now basic tools for public health practitioners, these courses also seek to foster and enhance skills related to the use of technology for accessing and using information and for communicating with colleagues. For additional information, see the PH 410 series syllabus.

Course content for PH 417 is described in the PH 417 Overview. Learners must register for the course in order to access materials, participate in the instructor-led learning activities, and receive CEUs and a certificate of completion. Course materials (PH 417 Exercises), however, can also be accessed by individuals who do not wish to formally register, interact with instructors, and receive recognition for completion of the course.
